At the beginning of the 20th century North Mianus, also known then as Dumpling Pond, was a bustling area of Greenwich and arguably one of the first commercial districts. Its location on the Mianus River brought large trading ships to export produce from the various Greenwich farms.

Many newly arrived immigrants settled in the area, including extended families of Italian immigrants. Women would take in young and married men as borders before they could afford to bring their wives over. For $1 a month they were provided with room and board and hot meals daily.

The early neighborhood had a saloon, grocery stores, a Community Center, places of worship, and a school. Today the North Mianus School still caters to the local children and the neighborhood is situated with close access to both Cos Cob and Old Greenwich.
