Fundraisers are cool, but you end up spending all night talking to people you either see every day or people you have no interest in talking to. I'm a fan of raising money for well deserving causes and appreciate original ways to get people to contribute. Over the past 17 years, the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids has been selling luminaries and promoting outdoor flames. I'm sure these little bags are safe, but there is always something nice about lighting a little fire.
The official luminary season started with a display at Binney Park on December 4th, but the real display night is this Sunday. At 5pm on Sunday night (Dec 12th) thousands of families throughout Fairfield County will light up their luminaries. It's a really neat event, especially in areas like Old Greenwich, Riverside, North Mianus and Cos Cob, where you can see rows and rows displays. If you would like to participate, make your way down to your local William Raveis office (in Greenwich at 45 Field Point Road and Old Greenwich at 189 Sound Beach Avenue) and buy a kit for $25. The money goes towards those dealing with grief or critical illness.
