For many of us in Greenwich, admiring houses is a sport. No one ever seems shy of an opinion when looking at a home. As chairperson of the Greenwich Historical Society's Landmark Recognition Program (and one of the most carefully conceived within the country I might add), this year's Selection Committee is impressive. They are also extraordinarily fussy. In refining the parameters that have been historically been used in the selection process, the word "magical" emerged. An odd word choice? Maybe not when you think about a house that makes your heart sing. Use of natural light? Check. Good proportions and scale? Check. Quality workmanship? Check. Appropriately sited on land? Check. These are a few of the components that we all know reflect a thoughtful architectural design. But what pushes it to something extra special? It is that ellusive but you know it when you see it quality of magic.
Have a home or know one that is magical? We'd like to know about it and have it come forth to be considered for plaquing. One caveat: It must be at least 50 years old.
